I am an established voice teacher and coach in Somerville, N.J. and a resident for 25 years. My younger students attend many public and private schools throughout Somerset, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Warren, Mercer and Union Counties. I have had continued success preparing these students for solo roles and for many school, festival and community performances. Many of my adult students are studying for personal enrichment and are also consistently active participating in church choirs, local musicals, popular bands and performing ensembles. I have often been invited to present Master Classes on healthy singing, coaching performers in a wide variety of musical genres.
I continue my own vocal studies with Denes Striny in New York City. Mr. Striny is not only one of NYC's leading singer/voice teachers, but also the author of important books on singing, and a guest conductor around the world. I have been honored to take over his studio when his career has taken him out of town.Studying with Mr. Striny lead to my successful audition for the Metropolitan Opera Chorus in N.Y. I performed in numerous productions for over a decade, working with some of the world's greatest singers, conductors and directors.
My teaching methods emphasize an open, relaxed technique and the projection of the voice's natural qualities. Improvements in pitch, nuance, range, endurance and tone become evident. Singing without constriction is the path to discovering the beauty of one's natural voice. With a deeper understanding of the true functioning of the singing voice, technical issues are resolved, and new expressive possibilities and genuine confidence are discovered.
I hold a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and a Master of Music Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. After serving as a High School Choral Director in Indiana, I moved to the metropolitan area to accept the position of Private Vocal Instructor at the Montserrat School of Music in Pluckemin, N.J. I have also taught privately at the Pingry School in Martinsville, N.J. and as a member of the Voice Faculty at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, N.J. I have been soloist and Director of Music at St. John the Evangelist Church in Lambertville, N.J., as well as conductor and solo performer at Plays in the Park in Edison. N.J.
I welcome new students to my home studio in Somerville, and look forward to discussing your goals and answering any questions that you may have.
